Smart Education in Ireland : Ireland posts fastest rate of jobs growth in EU

Employment grew faster in Ireland over the last 12 months than in any other EU State, according to new figures from the EU statistics agency, Eurostat.

The number of people employed in Ireland grew by 3% in the year to the end of June.

Employment growth in Ireland was closely followed by Spain at 2.9% and Luxembourg at 2.5%.

Ireland also showed strong jobs growth for the first six months of this year.

According to Eurostat, the number of people employed increased by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.2% across all 28 EU countries in the second quarter compared with the previous three month period.

Compared with the same quarter of last year, employment increased by 0.8% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the 28 EU member states in the second quarter of 2015.
