Smart Education in Ireland : SAS to create 150 jobs over three years in Dublin

Global business analytics company SAS is to create 150 jobs in Ireland over the next three years.

The business is to open a new sales and customer contact centre in Dublin, with an investment of €40m. The firm currently employs around 25 people in Ireland.

SAS makes software that helps businesses to makes sense and extract value out of the data that they gather.

The new centre will be located at the industry partnership centre at UCD, NexusUCD and will support sales of data analytics software across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The types of jobs on offer include multi-lingual business development, sales and customer engagement specialists, as well as data scientists and software engineers.

According to SAS, research by the Centre for Economics and Business Research has shown the use of large data sets, known as big data analytics, could bring in €27 billion for the Irish economy between 2013 and 2017.

This could create up to 61,000 jobs.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Dublin attended by the Taoiseach, Tánaiste, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, the head of the IDA and representatives of the company.

The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland said that SAS is a highly recognisable brand name in the global software industry and a leading player in data analytics.

"The development of the Inside Sales and Customer Contact Centre in Dublin is the first of its kind for SAS within EMEA and as such, is an important win for Ireland. SAS's decision to locate here will further highlight our country as a centre for big data and data analytics - a key emerging sector targeted by IDA Ireland," Mr Shanahan added.
