Smart Education in UK : 150 jobs to be created at Krispy Kreme Glasgow

Around 150 jobs are to be created in Glasgow as doughnut company Krispy Kreme opens its first store in Scotland’s biggest city.

The US firm, which sparked queues and traffic chaos when it opened its first Scottish outlet in Edinburgh in February 2013, plans to expand north of the border and is searching for further sites in the west of Scotland.

Its Glasgow store will open on 2 December.

Kripsy Kreme, which has four Scottish branches already open, in Dundee, Aberdeen and Livingston as well as Edinburgh, expects to create 100,000 doughnuts a week from the new Glasgow facility on the site of the former Scottish Maritime Museum site at intu Braehead shopping centre. It also sells its products through self service cabinets in Tesco stores throughout Scotland.

Judith Denby, chief marketing officer at Krispy Kreme, said: “There’s been a long standing demand for a store in the west of Scotland for some time now so we’re delighted to announce the opening date of our store in Braehead.”

Like the outlet at Hermiston Gait, the Glasgow branch will be a “hotlight” store, meaning it will act as a production and delivery hub for other local Krispy Kreme shops.
