Smart Education in Canada : Georgian launches first advanced Acupuncture diploma program in Ontario community college system

Georgian College is continuing its leadership in health care education with the addition of an advanced Acupuncture diploma program, launching January at the Barrie Campus.

The program is the first and only one of its kind being offered in the Ontario community college system.

Students will benefit from expert clinical training that combines integrative health care models with traditional Chinese medicine. They’ll also be prepared to meet entry-level standards of practice set by the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario through classroom instruction, skills labs and clinical placements.

“Acupuncture is one of the fastest-growing natural health care practices in Canada,” says Elizabeth Erwin, School of Health and Wellness. “Its popularity is increasing, both with students looking for a formal education and people seeking treatment.”

Students will learn about the foundations of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture points and meridians, anatomy and physiology, clinical diagnosis, and more. The curriculum was planned with input from industry professionals and college officials.

"Canada is not only known for it's picturesque locations, but also for it's high standard of education. The Colleges in Canada are at par with the best known Colleges in the world, in terms of the educational programs offered and the facilities provided to the students " , says Mr. Deepak, Education Manager, Career XL Services..
