Smart Education in UK : National survey places York St John in the top 40 of universities for student satisfaction

York St John University has risen an impressive 43 places up the student satisfaction league table - the third biggest point increase across UK institutions - and is now ranked 35th out of 123.

The 2015 National Student Survey (NSS) questioned UK undergraduates on a range of aspects of their experience at University and measured overall student satisfaction.For students at York St John University this score has risen from an outstanding 84 per cent in 2014 to an exceptional 88 per cent in 2015. The national average for overall satisfaction sits at 86 per cent for English higher education institutions. The University is now ranked 35th out of 123 higher education institutions for overall satisfaction, and up a remarkable 43 places from 2014.

Two-thirds of programmes scored 90 per cent or above for overall satisfaction from students.

Professor David Fleming, Vice Chancellor, welcomed the results. He said: “We have improved on every area of the survey from last year.

“A great deal of effort was made in 2014-15, across the University, to enhance the experience for all of our students and this has clearly made a difference.

“We continue to excel in the domains of ‘Teaching’ and ‘Academic Support’ and our Students’ Union has once again received a very positive endorsement from our students.”

The survey, conducted by Ipsos MORI, asks final year undergraduate students to rate their experiences in a range of areas based on 23 questions. These include feedback and assessment, learning resources and personal development.

This year 76 per cent of York St John’s final year students responded to the survey, which is higher than the national average of 71 per cent.
