SMART EDUCATION IN CANADA : SAIT RANKED AMONG TOP RESEARCH COLLEGES IN CANADA

Calgary, AB — SAIT Polytechnic is one of the top three research colleges in the country. The recognition came today as the annual Top 50 Research Colleges list was released by RE$EARCH Infosource Inc. as part of Canada's Innovation Leaders 2015.

In addition to claiming third place overall, SAIT took top spot in the Top 10 Research Colleges Partnering with Companies list — a new addition to the annual ranking report. Based on the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) awards database from 2010-2014, SAIT garnered $6.8 million in grants to take first place in the partnership list.

"Collaboration and partnerships are cornerstones of applied research at SAIT," says Dr. David Ross, President and CEO of SAIT. "Investments from both the federal and provincial governments allow SAIT students and instructors to engage with industry and turn research concepts into practical solutions — making ideas a reality."

SAIT has remained in the top five on the RE$EARCH Infosource list since the inaugural ranking in 2013.

Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS) was created at SAIT more than 10 years ago and is home to four research areas: Environmental Technologies, Sports and Wellness Engineering Technologies, the RFID Application Development Lab and the Green Building Technology Access Centre.

As a way to enhance their applied education experience at SAIT, an average of 250 students each year are directly involved in research projects at SAIT, immediately applying their classroom knowledge to real-world projects with industry.

In the past five years, more than 575 applied research projects carried out at SAIT have resulted in the development of 400 prototypes.

The Top 50 Research Colleges ranking joins other categories including the Top 50 Research Universities, Top 40 Research Hospitals and the Top 100 Corporate R&D Spenders

"Canada is not only known for it's picturesque locations, but also for it's high standard of education.
