Smart Education in Ireland : Jobs boost for Limerick as Vistakon announces €100m investment

MORE than 200 construction jobs are to be created at Vistakon in Plassey after the firm announced a €100m expansion of its manufacturing operation.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton and Finance Minister Michael Noonan were on hand today to announce the investment at the National Technology Park.

The decision to expand its factory here will see the positions created over an 18 month period.

Established in Limerick in 1996, Vistakon is one of several Johnson & Johnson companies operating in Ireland.

There are 2,500 people working for the company in this country, with the firm’s headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida.

Dr Mark Benson, vice-president supply chain, consumer medical devices, Johnson & Johnson said: “Limerick was chosen for this strategically important investment because of its track record over many years in providing quality products and excellent customer service to markets around the globe. I would like to acknowledge IDA Ireland which is a key partner for us in our ongoing growth and development.”

Vistakon last announced investment in Limerick last December when it opened an information technology shared services centre, a move which saw 100 new jobs created.

In April 2014, Ethicon, which is part of the same group, unveiled plans to create 270 jobs at a neighbouring facility in Plassey.
